Discover the effectiveness of business planning with the OGSM methodology
As long as people see strategy as something extra, on top of their daily work, it is not going to happen.
OGSM weaves strategy into the everyday activities, and that’s how objectives are reached.

OGSM stands for Objectives, Goals, Strategies and Measures and simplifies your business plan into one page, highlighting how its parts are related:
Long-term: Where you are going and what needs to be achieved
Mid- and short-term: what needs to be done by whom and when
It is ideal for consistent communication to the Board, the Management Team and all employees.
IN MORE DETAIL
Objective: An OGSM begins with a definitive statement of the qualitative goal, outlining the organization's desired market position and direction within a specific timeframe, requiring team consensus without being overly broad.
Goals: The qualitative objective is then converted into measurable, quantitative goals to determine if the desired outcomes have been achieved.
Strategies: Strategies are formulated to achieve the Objective, focusing on selecting a few effective paths over many, based on market insights and innovative thinking.
Measures: Strategies are broken down into specific actions and responsibilities. And because those who write the actions will also implement them, there is a strong sense of ownership and responsibility.

All resources within the organisation contribute to the shared objective: teams are motivated to work together to help eachother achieve the organisation's goals.

WHAT EXACTLY MAKES OGSM SO SPECIAL AND SUCCESSFUL?
The open dialogue when writing the OGSM is essential: confrontation and reflection ensure shared ownership.
1 page : overview and clarity
Specific: A clear, concise way of writing that leaves no room for interpretation.
Focus: deciding what to do and – equally important – what NOT to do. So you can continue that focus during the implementation of the strategies.
When you spread your efforts across ten different strategies, you won't achieve any of them. However, by narrowing your focus to just a few, achieving them becomes realistic.
Day-to-day emphasis: Linking strategic planning with the daily priorities of employees and teams ensures that departments and colleagues keep each other better informed about progress and steps to be taken.
Frequent evaluation: do the actions contribute to implementing the strategies? The dashboard will tell you this, and also where you need to adjust. OGSM supports the realisation of a continuously improving organisation.
